What is contract management?

Contract management is a role focused on the creation and maintenance of contracts made between a variety of stakeholders, which can include customers, employers, partners, affiliates, vendors, etc. Contract managers often find themselves in very high demand within the construction industry, as they are essential to winning new building contracts and refurb contracts, ensuring that they are completed before a deadline and under budget.

Careers in contract management

As mentioned previously, contract managers are very popular within construction but also within IT. It's generally considered an office job, but contract managers can travel around depending on the sector they're engaged in. The starting salary comes in at around £25K but it can increase to as much as £45,000. Those holding senior positions in contract management can earn even more, over £50,000 a year and over. While a solid foundation in academia may help, a great deal of a candidate's appeal for this role is the amount of experience they may have in project management and their understanding of a certain industry.
